PC Gamer reported that Phantom Blade Zero does not use XP leveling in the demoed structure. There are no souls-like dropped experience piles to recover on death in that account.

Instead, the player gets stronger by acquiring and upgrading weapons and finding items that increase health and stamina-like gauges. This keeps exploration and boss rewards important without turning the game into a stat-grind RPG.
